Study Voice with Mickey

Registration through Toledo Symphony School of Music.

As a private voice teacher, I’ve worked with students of many ages and styles over the last decade. We make sure lessons are a fun place to express ourselves and build discipline. My private students have won lead roles, vocal scholarships, solo competitions, Disney internships, performed with rock bands, and recorded their own music.

As a college teacher, I’ve instructed courses in undergraduate vocal pedagogy, art song repertoire, class voice for nonmajors, and singing diction in Italian, French, German, and English. Healthy technique and strong musicianship are the basis of my students’ success.

As a singer, I’m happiest in a choir, playing angry ladies in Mozart operas, and working on new chamber music with friends. My favorite roles on stage have been Anne Truelove in The Rake’s Progress, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Abigail Williams in The Crucible, and Johanna in Sweeney Todd.

I grew up in Kansas City with a bluegrass guitarist mother and a metal percussionist brother before studying music at Mizzou, LSU, and BGSU. The singers who’ve impacted me most (so far) are Beverly Sills, Betty Carter, Emmylou Harris, Thom Yorke, and Whitney Houston.
